Send your first campaign

From a new account to a one-off email in your subscribers' inboxes.

A campaign is a one-off send to a set of contacts: a launch, an announcement, a newsletter. This walks the whole path, from a fresh account to mail that has actually gone out.

Before you start

You need a domain you can add DNS records to, and a list of people who have opted in to hear from you.

1. Verify a sending domain

Open Settings, Sending and add a sending subdomain, something like mail.yourcompany.com. Pombo gives you DKIM, SPF, and a DMARC record to add at your DNS provider. Verification usually completes within the hour. Nothing sends until this passes. See verify your sending domain, and check the records are live with the free email authentication checker.

2. Import your contacts

Go to Contacts, Import and upload a CSV. Map the email column and any columns you want to keep as fields. Mark the list as opted in when Pombo asks; that attestation is one of the sending gates. See importing contacts.

3. Draft the email

Start a new campaign from Campaigns. Describe what you want to send in a sentence and Pombo writes the first draft: subject line, body, and layout, in your brand voice if you have set one. Edit any block directly, or ask for changes in plain language.

4. Pick who gets it

Choose your whole audience or narrow it with a segment, for example everyone imported in the last week, or everyone with a given tag.

5. Send yourself a test

Use Send test to see the real thing in your own inbox. Check the sender name, the subject, the links, and how it looks on a phone.

6. Send

Send now, or schedule it for later. Once it goes out, Analytics shows opens, clicks, and bounces as they come in. See reading your analytics.

What you have now

A verified domain, an imported and opted-in audience, and one campaign delivered. From here, build a welcome sequence so new contacts get a first email automatically.
